The Expedition Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival & Journey to the Rainforest
Your Sumatran odyssey begins with a private pickup from Medan Airport (KNO) or your hotel. Relax in an air-conditioned vehicle during the 4-hour drive to Bukit Lawang, the gateway to the jungle. After checking into your lodge, the afternoon is yours—cool off in the river, unwind at your accommodation, or take a gentle stroll to meet the friendly locals in the nearby village.
Day 2: Into the Wild – Full-Day Orangutan Trekking
At 09:00 AM, your certified English-speaking guide will lead you into the ancient Gunung Leuser National Park. This is your chance to witness wild Sumatran orangutans in their natural habitat. As you trek through the lush canopy, keep an eye out for gibbons, peacocks, and exotic tropical birds. A traditional jungle lunch and fresh fruit spread will be served amidst the forest greenery before you return to Bukit Lawang.
Day 3: From the Jungle to the Highlands
After breakfast, we leave the lowland heat for the cool mountain air of Berastagi. The 5–6 hour scenic drive includes a stop at the golden Lumbhini Natural Park and the vibrant local fruit market. Spend your evening relaxing in the refreshing climate of the Berastagi highlands.
Day 4: Volcano Sunrise & The Great Lake Toba
Rise early for a 04:00 AM ascent of Mount Sibayak. Reaching the summit in time for sunrise offers panoramic views of the volcanic landscape. We then continue toward Lake Toba, stopping to marvel at the towering Sipiso-piso Waterfall. In the afternoon, a ferry will carry you across the deep blue waters to Samosir Island, your home for the next two nights.
Day 5: Samosir Island – A Cultural Immersion
Today is dedicated to the rich heritage of the Batak people. Explore the ancient stone chairs of Ambarita Village and visit Simanindo Village for an authentic Batak dance performance and museum tour. You will also witness the intricate art of Ulos weaving in a local village. The afternoon is yours to soak in the serene atmosphere of the world’s largest volcanic lake.
Day 6: Farewell to Sumatra
After a final breakfast overlooking Lake Toba, we begin our journey back to Medan Hotel or Kuala Namu International Airport (KNO) for your onward flight. You depart with a heart full of memories and a deep appreciation for the spirit of Sumatra.
